Stapleton's Neighborhood Groups- Making Sense of the Alphabet soup.
About once a week I leave the house either early in the morning or maybe in the evening spewing off a few initials of where I am heading. Finally my wife said "where the heck are you going?" If you live in Stapleton you know that there have been many articles written in the Front Porch(our local paper) and different hot topics in Stapleton with references to different Stapleton neighborhood groups. A few examples are SUN, CAB, or MCA, but it can be very confusing when trying to figure out how to keep up on a topic or give feedback to the appropriate group. What would probably be best is to understand the sort of hierarchy that exists and how they were set up originally as designed when the Stapleton Development Plan was initially put in place and maybe help keep me out of the dog house as well
The Green Book as laid out in the Stapleton Development Plan is a plan that the City of Denver, DIA and surrounding neighborhoodsall had input in. They searched out a developer that could bring this vision to fruition. This Developer is Forest City(FC or FCE). The city then put in place certain checks and balances to ensure the Green Book was being followed. The direct board involved in this process is the Stapleton Development Corporation(SDC). The SDC, which is governed by a board of distinguished citizens, includes elected officials, business, and civic leaders. The corporation also receives the benefit of guidance from a Citizen's Advisory Board(CAB) that has been actively involved in all critical phases of the Stapleton development process.
CAB has feedback from several different committees; this is where the acronyms really come into play.
Under the umbrella of CAB are groups like, communication, transportation, public art, parks advisory group(PAG), housing diversity committee(HDC), zoning and planning(ZAP), and design review committee(DRC). Also with seats at the CAB table are groups like Stapleton United Neighbors(SUN) and Master Community Association(MCA).
SUN is a registered neighborhoodassociation and is part of the Inter Neighborhood Coalition(INC) like CAB has an group of groups under it's purview. Many are the same as CABs and have SUN board members sit on these committees but also include education, security, sustainability and community outreach. We are also in charge of the annual Kickball tournament and everyone who lives in Stapleton is a member. We have 2 year board seats of which we are filling a couple currently.
The MCA is our master homeowners association which covers such items as our pools, events on the green and pocket parks. These are the fruits of our HOA dues that we pay monthly to live in Stapleton and create a lot of the living amenities we have all grown to love. They are governed by a board and neighborhood delegates, they also are looking for openings.
Another Stapleton neighborhood group you may have heard of is the Greater Stapleton Business Association(GSBA). This is a group of community businesses that get together monthly to share stories, ideas, and trends and is open to any business for a small annual fee.
Here are a few of the groups' websites if you have additional questions of how they run and how to get involved.
